. How many 176 Ω resistors (in parallel) are required to carry 5 A on a 220 V line?

##### Solution :-

Let us consider the number of resistors required as ‘x.’

The equivalent resistance of the parallel combination of resistor R is given by

$$\frac{1}{R}=x\times \frac{1}{176}=R= \frac{176}{x}$$

Now, using Ohm's law, the number of resistors can be calculated as follows:

$$R= \frac{V}{I}$$

Substituting the value, we get

$$\frac{176}{x}= \frac{V}{I}$$

$$x= \frac{176\times5}{220}=4$$

The number of resistors required is 4.
